What is ABA?

ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is a science of human behavior. It provides a structure for looking at human behaviors, learning what causes them and determining how to manipulate the environment to make the behaviors increase or decrease. It also provides a basic structure for teaching new skills/behaviors we want to increase.

ABA began 70 years ago with the work of Dr. BF Skinner. In 1938, Skinner published The Behavior of Organisms, which described operant conditioning and what is now known as the ABC's of behavior. This science was later applied to education and to other matters of socially significant behavior, by Behavior Analysts, which led to what is now known as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
